{"id":4740,"date":"2017-03-13T16:25:27","date_gmt":"2017-03-13T16:25:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.visionpubl.com\/en\/?p=4740"},"modified":"2017-03-13T16:25:27","modified_gmt":"2017-03-13T16:25:27","slug":"theatre-of-pergamon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.visionpubl.com\/en\/cities\/pergamon\/theatre-of-pergamon\/","title":{"rendered":"Theatre of Pergamon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Theatre of Pergamon<\/strong>, built during<strong> the 3rd century B.C<\/strong>., is of the <strong>Hellenistic type<\/strong>, with a cavea that goes beyond the stage, and it was partly modified during the <strong>Roman Age<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It is surprising in its dimensions: <strong>80 rows<\/strong> of very tall steps, with the highest situated about <strong>36 meters<\/strong> above the orchestra pit; it could seat <strong>10,000 spectators<\/strong>.<br \/>\nAnother interesting element is the presence of a terrace<strong> 246 meters<\/strong> long, a singular porticus post scaenam, with a covered <strong>Doric portico<\/strong> leading to the <strong>Temple of Dionysus<\/strong>, installed in its northernmost extremity.<\/p>\n<p>The sacred building, a perfect <strong>example of a prostyle, tetrastyle, Ionic Hellenistic temple<\/strong> raised on a podium made accessible by a staircase, is constructed of andesite, a volcanic rock, as are almost all the <strong>Attalid<\/strong> buildings of Pergamon.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"http:\/\/www.visionpubl.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/03\/6956560247_1063f74d43_b.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a9 Photo credits by <a class=\"linkHighlight\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/kjfnjy\/\" target=\"_new\">Ken and Nyetta<\/a> under CC-BY-2.0<\/p>\n<p>It was restored and clad with marble during the <strong>Roman Age<\/strong> by <strong>Caracalla<\/strong>, who was venerated in the city as <strong>Neos Dionysos<\/strong>.
