{"id":2905,"date":"2016-04-10T09:48:15","date_gmt":"2016-04-10T09:48:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.visionpubl.com\/en\/?p=2905"},"modified":"2016-08-10T10:24:19","modified_gmt":"2016-08-10T10:24:19","slug":"the-roman-colosseum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.visionpubl.com\/en\/cities\/rome\/the-roman-colosseum\/","title":{"rendered":"The Colosseum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The\u00a0Roman Colosseum<\/strong>, a.k.a. &#8220;Amphitheatrum Flavium&#8221; (Flavian Amphitheatre), is one of the major\u00a0tourist attractions in\u00a0Rome and is the <strong>world&#8217;s<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>largest amphiteater ever built<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Its construction began under the emperor <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vespasian\" target=\"_blank\">Vespasian<\/a>\u00a0in 72 d.C. and was completed under\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Titus\" target=\"_blank\">Titus<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a080 d.C.. The Colosseum was used mainly for\u00a0<strong>gladiatorial contests<\/strong>, animal\u00a0hunts, executions,re-enactments of famous battles and other kinds of spectacles.<\/p>\n<p>The Colosseum could hold up to\u00a0<strong>75.000 spectators<\/strong>. Each sector was reserved to a specific class of citizens, based on their importance.
